In 2005, Mayor Bloomberg promised the neighborhoods of Greenpoint and Williamsburg a 28-acre park along North Brooklyn's waterfront to soften the impact of a massive rezoning of the area. More than six years later, tens-of-thousands of new residents have moved in, but very little of Bushwick Inlet Park has materialized--and much of the land for the park has not even been acquired by the City. Recently, the Bloomberg administration completely reversed itself, and told local leaders that it had "no funding for" and "no schedule for" finishing the park.
Our park is in jeopardy. Our mission is to fight back, force Mayor Bloomberg to make good on his promise, and get Bushwick Inlet Park built so that North Brooklyn can finally have the open space it needs and deserves. Join us.
A great time was had by all at the Friends of Bushwick Inlet Park/Neighbors Allied for Good Growth Funraiser at The Diamond on Saturday, May 8th. The Hop Sun beer (Pink Lemonade for the kids!) and Bratwurst/Veggie Bratwurst hot off the grill provided the perfect reason for the community to gather in support of greening the strip of public trees that front Bushwick Inlet.
Even our City Councilman Stephen Levin and his Community Liason Rami Metal showed up for the good times. In all about 75 people came out in support of the cause.
Thanks to all who helped out especially Dave Pollack, owner of The Diamond, Union Beer, Cara White of NAG, and Trina McKeever and Katherine Thompson of Friends of Bushwick Inlet Park. Special thanks to the grillmaster Jonathan Fox who kept the Brats rolling off the grill and into the mouths of many a satisfied customer.
Our total take was $830! We’ll be in touch in the coming weeks about the next steps for the greening of the inlet project.
