Not many people know that behind this fence lies a little inlet of water that used to run all the way up to McCarren Park in Brooklyn, and is what attracted people to live in this neighborhood in the first place. Bushwick Inlet, or what is left of it, is a special place. So when the city pushed through the rezoning that allowed developers to build tower blocks all over Williamsburg and Greenpoint it promised in return it would protect and honor the inlet by creating a beautiful 28 acre park for the community. Ten years later, asides for some adjacent soccer fields and placing a sign on the fence, it has not built the park. But as the site lies unoccupied, the fence is falling away, nature is reclaiming the land and local residents and activists are letting it be known that one way or another we will have our park…
